During the International Watercolour Festival in Calgary, we are excited to offer a series of special one-day studio workshops led by featured artists Inna Nagaytseva, Elena Markelova, and Ian Wright.

These workshops are designed as focused, inspiring sessions where participants can spend a full day painting, learning new techniques, and working closely with professional artists in a relaxed studio atmosphere.

Whether you are visiting the festival or are part of the local art community, these workshops are a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills, explore new approaches to watercolor, and connect with fellow artists.

In this unique and inspiring session, Elena will guide you through creating a Mama and Baby Bears painting in her beautiful signature double exposure style.

Elena will begin with a step-by-step demonstration, showing how to combine expressive bear portraits with a soft, misty forest landscape. You will learn how to layer watercolor to create atmosphere, depth, and connection within the composition. Elena will also share techniques for painting fur, trees, and mist, along with some of her favorite tips and tricks for bringing warmth, storytelling, and life into your artwork.

After the demonstration, participants will work on their own paintings while receiving personal guidance and support throughout the session.

Join Canadian watercolor artist Ian Wright for a special one-day studio workshop during the International Watercolour Festival in Calgary.

In this engaging and practical session, Ian will share his approach to creating vibrant, expressive watercolor paintings inspired by landscapes and everyday scenes. Through demonstration and guided practice, participants will learn how to simplify complex subjects, build strong values, and create luminous colour effects that bring energy and atmosphere into a painting.

Ian will demonstrate techniques for controlling the flow of water and pigment, developing depth through tonal contrast, and allowing watercolor to work freely while maintaining structure in the composition. Participants will then work on their own paintings while receiving individual guidance and feedback throughout the workshop.
